Oars and Sculls
Shaft Construction
By using the latest technology and extensive testing, BRACA-SPORT has developed a line of oar and scull shafts without equal in both quality and performance.
Our success has come from the unique combination of the materials used, the lay-up techniques and the method of consolidation. A thin band of High Modulus Carbon (HMC - 0.11mm) is laid upon with varying quantities of High Modulus impact resistant glass. This combination of materials is then introduced to toughened epoxy resin and together they are laid and wound onto a steel mandrel under very precise and exact controls. Polymerisation takes place at 160°C under high pressure. The result is a tube of excellent consolidation, high impact resistance and stiffness, all in an a very light package.
Shaft Type
The new Ultra Light GOLD family of products is a combination of our best and most sophisticated oars. Ultra Light Gold shafts are marked by a distinctive Gold band and represent the highest level of know-how and quality BRACA-SPORT offers for rowers.
By using a special layering system with a 100% pure high modulus carbon shaft and a special carbon blade structure, the Gold brand products have the highest level of stiffness at the same weight as the Ultra Light oars.
BRACA-SPORT made a special and exclusive surface design for its Gold Brand to underline the hi-tech nature of these products.
Ultra Light (Yellow band) shafts are produced by using 100% pure high modulus carbon. These shafts have maximum lightness and high stiffness.
Standard (Red band) shafts have a lower carbon content. They are less stiff than the Ultra Light and are 20% heavier. This material combination has the highest possible inpact resistance.
Recreational (Green band) still retains excellent stiffness and feel, even though the carbon content has been reduced to 40%. They maintain high impact resistance and carry only a 11% weight premium over the Standard type. Optional handle sizes are available for both younger athletes and adults.
Weight
Shaft Stiffness
Before assembly the stiffness and the weight of each shaft is checked and measured.
For any one pair of sculls or set of oars, the stiffness will vary no more than ±0.1 cm.

Shaft Length
Shown in the table below are our standard production lengths. We are, however happy to accommodate any non-standard requests.
Each oar and scull carries labels with the information of the exact min and max length.

Centre of Gravity
Our unique electronic equipment allows us to fine-tune the combination of any handle weight with a chosen oar or scull, with a maximum error of ±5 g.

| Sculls | 143 - 146 |
Inboard Setting Range

Standard positioning of the sleeves, together with the range of adjustment can be seen in the table.
Oars and sculls requiring non-standard positioning can easily be catered for. All are fitted with white sleeves and black buttonsm in some cases sculls may be fitted with red and green buttons.
We accept requests for non-standard positioning - these can be specified at the time of ordering.

Adjustable Length
The adjustable shaft length is available for Ultra Light and Ultra Light Gold shafts only.
This allows easy adjustment to the overall length of up to 40mm, as shown in the picture below.
